In 1902, May 21st, Marcel Lajos Breuer was born in Pecs, Hungary. Breuer pronounced (BROY-ur) was one of the first Bauhaus students after leaving the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna in 1920. His student designs were quickly recognized and became very influential to his masters. By 1924 Breuer graduated the Bauhaus and was quickly asked to return as the head of the carpentry workshop where he worked until 1928. It was during these years he designed his most influential chairs still bought today. By 1937 Breuer fled WW2 and immigrated to the U.S. with many other Bauhaus designers leading him to Harvard, and eventually New York City where he resided and practiced architecture until his death in 1981.
